I was entrusted with the development of Blok 8, a residential ensemble within a larger masterplan composed of multiple housing clusters. This project marked the point where abstract design ambitions met the discipline of architectural precision.
The work
Working within an existing design framework, I refined floorplans, developed elevations, and detailed facade fragments that needed to express individuality while maintaining harmony with the surrounding blocks. I contributed to material selection — especially the brickwork pattern and tone — learning to weigh aesthetic impact against technical constraints such as tolerances and supplier specifications.
Four principles
The design resolved around four ideas: all-sided orientation, so the block addresses the street on every side and eliminates inactive back alleys; individuality within unity, balancing cohesive massing with distinct home identity; a public-private green interface using soft landscaped boundaries instead of hard fences; and integrated functionality, weaving utility spaces like ground-floor storage into the footprint without compromising the residential feel.
What it taught me
Blok 8 taught me to find poetry in repetition, clarity in coordination, and identity through detail — and that architecture is the craft of making decisions that echo through budgets, drawings, and built form.
